“Reset”

By: Keithayonna Davis

I awoke to sunrise
Blinds clacking against the pane.
I want to close the window
But the birds are chirping the prettiest song.
Cleansing something within me.
Wind carrying notes straight to my heart.
As if they’ve been sent out on a mission.
“Sing to her” they said.
So they fluttered in.
Letting their tiny bellies puff and huff a melody just for me.

Time eases backward
I see myself walking hand in hand with my mother.
The wonders I had about the world return as if it knows it’s left me for a while.

The sun peaks through
Creating a spotlight to set the stage in my living room.
The air fresh,
Untouched.
I breathe it in
While wild forces shake me awake.
